The Battlefield

Where is the real battlefield? Is it in the Congress? the White House? the Supreme Court? the media? the public schools and universities? our churches?

There are certainly battles going on in each of these arenas--battles for the future of our nation.

It is my contention, though, that the most critical battle is for the mind and heart of the American citizen.

While Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court, exercise great power and influence, it is the media, our educational institutions, and particularly our churches that are clearly at the forefront of this battle.

I suggest that the focal point of the struggle to pull our nation back from the precipice of destruction should be on the Christian churches across our land. For it is here, first and foremost, where we have the greatest opportunity to shape the future.

I so appreciate David Wells, Charles Colson, John Whitehead, Douglas Phillips, Brannon HowseT.M. Moore, and many others like them. These men understand the power of clear-headed thinking. They have committed themselves to teach and instruct us in the core principles of Biblical Worldview.

Our nation rose from a rich seedbed of Biblical, Judeo-Christian thought, planted, in many cases, by those who occupied the pulpits of the American colonies. Men like Jonathan Edwards, Timothy Dwight, and John Witherspoon, and the Puritan preachers before them, gave our forbears God's ideas on Christian self-government, and other sound principles. Out of these ideas sprang our political liberty, our ideas of Federalism, and our three-branch system of government.

The freedoms we enjoy in America today have historically been held in place by an electorate with a Judeo-Christian mindset. Within the last few decades however, we have gradually shed ourselves of these Christian ideas, and thus have severely endagered our future.

Many Americans today, and certainly a large measure of immigrants both legal and illegal, are bereft of a clear understanding of the principles which have undergirded our national liberty and our system of capitalism which has provided us with such great prosperity as a people. The blessings we have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy did not occur without cause. And they will not remain unless sustained by the people.

As Benjamin Franklin so aptly noted, we have been given a Republic, if we can keep it. There are no guarantees that our wonderful system will live on in perpetuity.

Perhaps the most significant progress is being made in Christian homeschools. I know of many home-schooled kids who have been infused with a sound Biblical Worldview. And I have met a few homeschool mothers who likewise have been freshly awakened as they labor day-to-day to help their young ones learn.

This blog will be dedicated to promoting a Biblical Worldview. I pray that in some small way, it may inspire others to consider how ideas, both good and bad, shape the world in which we live.
